Whistling at sparrows around the neighbourhood

ZWERM (‘flock’) is an ICT-based game designed to help local residents get to know each other better through a series of fun activities, such as whistling at ‘sparrows’ around the neighbourhood and checking in at a ‘nest tree’. By completing these missions, residents win points, and two residents of the two competing neighbourhoods, Myriam from Ekkergem and Ophélie from Papegaai, have already been congratulated personally by the mayor for their efforts. The game is designed to get both adults and children involved. It is especially important for newcomers wishing to integrate into the local community, and in the evening neighbours gather for informal snacks and drinks. The game stems from a broader crowdsourcing initiative, ‘my digital idea’ (, where citizens put forward their ideas for improving traffic, wellbeing and the environment using ICT.
