Finding city centre parking during major events can be a headache. This inspired Nicolas Kint to develop a ‘Carambla’, a web platform where private organisations or individuals can advertise and rent out their parking spaces to visitors. He came up with the solution during an iBoot Camp at iMinds, a Ghent-based independent research institution working on behalf of the Flemish government, and has since turned it into a mobile app. Drivers can use their smartphones to identify and access available parking spaces around Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp. As well as helping out drivers, the scheme is an easy way for individuals and organisations to earn a little extra cash, and there are plans to extend the app to cover the rest of Flanders and Wallonia.
