The EUROCITIES awards are designed to recognise outstanding achievement by EUROCITIES members in the delivery of local activities or practices which improve the quality of life for citizens.
The awards will be judged in the context of the theme of the annual conference, by an independent jury of five members with expertise in this area. They represent the host city, academia, EU institutions, media and the third sector.
The EUROCITIES awards 2013 showcase ‘smart citizens’, rewarding actions on cooperation between local governments and citizens using digital technology, in the three categories: smart governance, smart jobs and smart living.
In each of these categories, the jury will judge to what extent the project is using a bottom up approach in the process of involving citizens, the creativity and innovative character of the activity and the potential or actual impact it has in today’s cities:
- Smart governance: co-creation initiatives for public services, e-government, open data or similar
- Smart jobs: through citizen-driven innovation, social entrepreneurship and new business development
- Smart living: liveability in an urban environment, new solutions that make our cities better places, more attractive and more sustainable
During the ceremony on 27 November 2013, the winners will receive a trophy and a EUROCITIES certificate.
